Taking the time now to opt out marketing offers can save you a lot of
time and hassle in the long run. Imagine not having to sort through so
much junk mail and not having to tell so many telemarketers you are not
interested in what they are selling. See below steps you can take to
avoid receiving unwanted marketing offers.
Do Not Call List
If you would like to stop
receiving calls from telemarketers, you can register with the
National
Do Not Call Registry. Most telemarketers should not call your number
once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a
complaint at
National
Do Not Call Registry's website. You can register your home or mobile
phone for free. Your registration is effective for five years.
Keep in mind that the Do Not Call
Registry doesn't apply to:
Reduce Junk Mail
You have the option to remove your name and address from the Direct
Marketing Association's members' mailing list. This won't eliminate junk
mail, because many direct mailers aren't association members, but it can
help reduce your junk mail. This service costs $1.00 and you may
register by mail or online.

Opt Out of Credit Card Offers
Reduce the number of credit card
offers you receive by mail by
registering with the opt-out service
offered by the major credit bureaus.
To opt out, visit
OptOutPrescreen.com or call
1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-567-8688) -
you will need to provide your Social
Security number and date of birth.
They offer the option of removing
your name permanently or for five
years from pre-screened marketing
lists sold to credit card companies
and insurers.
Freeze Your Credit
Freezing your credit is fairly
extreme for the purpose of reducing
marketing offers. However, it may be
a good option for victims of
identity theft and those at high
risk for identity theft.
See our Identity Theft page for more
information.
Currently, 39 states allow
residents to lock up access to their
credit reports and credit scores,
although in some states the option
is limited to ID-theft victims only.
For a list of states and their
requirements, visit the Consumer's
Union site,
FinancialPrivacyNow.org.
Be More Selective When Sharing Your Information
If you do a lot of shopping
online, it's a good idea to check the site's privacy policy. Many times,
your information could be sold to others after you make the purchase. Be
sure they offer an option to opt-out of receiving marketing offers from
other companies. Avoid signing up for so-called "freebies",
sweepstakes/contests or mailing lists because many of these are schemes
to collect your contact information for marketing purposes.
Most companies that you do
business with will mail you an annual privacy notice with opt-out
information included with it. You can simply follow the steps to avoid
receiving the marketing material from the company.
You may opt out of CD
Federal Credit Union's marketing offers if you would like to.
Please click here to read our privacy
policy & opt out notice. Please note that you will no longer receive
our quarterly promotion mailings with special deals for our products and
services.
